April 14, 2005 "Filter this!" Hi kids- What a great trip I had. One of the best ever days was meeting singer songwriter Richard Patrick from the awesome rock band Filter. He is such a great guy. We spent about 4 days together just bumming around Nashville listening to tunes and playing guitars. I have loved the band Filter since I first heard the “Take A Picture” EP. We hung out and played music till all hours. I got to hang in the studio too which was a blast... the wild wacky night life and all that goes with it was so cool to be back into but it is also nice to be home in the little forested area where I currently live. Right now I am finishing up tunes for the second CD. I have about 30 in the pot of which we will pick 12 of the cream and go from there. I am excited about the new material which is a bit edgier. Still with its ballads in place this records got more of my “rock n’ roll” attitude in it. I enjoyed the scene in Nashville. Everyone was so warm and willing. It was great. Denver, while an interesting city with a thriving music scene, is just too flat for me and way way way to many strip malls for my taste. WALMART anyone... how ‘bout a Starbucks, or a Target no wait a minute how about a Starbucks located in a Target within a WALMART. Who out there has seen the ‘South Park’ episode where Kyle and the gang freak out ‘cause a WALMART comes to town!!! Yikes, they act like zombies shopping at three in the morning. Kinda like Nestles coming into McCloud... don’t get me started! The city life has nearly removed itself from me. I no longer thrive in it nor want really to live my life in a big city, for now. But who knows I could end up living out my days in downtown Manhattan and loving it. If you get a chance buy these two books about small town life: ‘It Takes A Village Idiot’ By Jim Mullen and ‘Dakota’ by Kathleen Norris. Two great books that will make you laugh, cry and think well, maybe old rubber truck tires, empty beer cans and overflowing trash receptacles on your front lawn is “yard art”. Life is so strange. You just never know where you will end up, with whom you will end up and with what you will end up. We are setting up the summer/fall tour and will be posting dates on the webbie for those. Should shape up to be a productive and exciting summer/fall and winter too. A shout out to my hommies in Austin, Nashville, Huntsville, Rome, San Francisco, New York and Scott Valley. Thank you all for your well wishes for my father’s speedy recovery. Your kindness and prayers are much appreciated. Big hugs and kisses to Isaac and Matt. Enjoy the summer boys, you deserve it!!! Your pal, Nancie |
